Élyse Romain - English Version | FEB 2021
Hello VWGIRLS followers,
It’s time for a new blog! For the month of February, we would like to introduce you to VWGIRLS member #1651 - Élyse Romain. She’s from a small town named Fort-Coulonge in the Pontiac region in the province of Québec. She was born and raised there. “I never lived anywhere else. It is about 2 hours from Ottawa, Ontario. I know I live far from everything, it kind of sucks, but I am used to it and always down for a ride!”. Like most of us, she knows how being in a “guys world” can be intimidating. Élyse recently started coming out of her shell and started attending bigger events. “I have met some of the most amazing car people throughout all of it.”
Élyse is a simple girl. She works at her local Pontiac hospital as an administrative assistant in the Emergency department. She’s 24 years old and her cars are her babies.
She’s been into the car world almost her whole life. She grew up with her (boy) cousins and she was always around them. “I had a big car collection; all the racetrack toys you could imagine. I was mostly in a sand pit with my Tonka trucks. My godmother (also my mom’s sister, so my auntie) always drove nice cars and they were always standard. I would always say that her car was “MY car”. At one point in my life, I was about 12 years old I’d say, my aunt’s husband had a clean Mazda Speed protégé, and he took me for a ride, and oh man that day I fell in love with boost. He had a bunch of modifications on the car and I remember it as if it was yesterday. I was so sad when he sold that car… I would have bought it if I had the money at the time. It is when I told myself: ‘’I am going to have a sick ass whip one day.”

She has two cars: MK7 GTI as a daily and a MK4 VR6 Jetta. Let’s talk about her VR6 first. She bought the cars as-is. She hasn’t done much on it… yet. She’s had it for almost a year now. Her main goal for this summer is: custom headlights, polish her wheels, fix the paint a little and make the exhaust sound louder so we can hear that VR6 scream. “It’s hard to have everything I want; car parts are so expensive (hell everything is nowadays and everything I’ve ever owned was because of me. I’ve never had any help, nor anyone buy anything for me. Everything comes straight from hard work, and I would love to be able to modify it to my taste even if it already is pretty much.” She doesn’t ask her parents, friends or anybody anything because we all have struggles in life and she feels better when she’s the reason why she has what she has. Nobody can say: “she wouldn’t have that if it wasn’t for me and that’s the thing that I am most proud of. It made me who I am today, I only depend on myself.” She would love to wrap her VR6 in a few years, and her absolute DREAM would be to add a turbo in it. “Oh god would that ever be INSANE. It’s a work in progress ”. For her GTI, there isn’t really much done to it either, “I’m still on a warranty so I can’t really do anything crazy. Then again, if I had more money it would be a different story”!

As previously mentioned, being in this industry as a girl can be intimidating at times. She tries to stay confident, though. “I do not know every single detail about cars (mechanic wise) but it is something I am willing to learn. I love seeing females that drives sick ass cars! I remember, before I was in the car scene, before I even had a modified car, every time I would see a nice car and then I would see a girl driving it I would FREAK out and say whaaaaaaatttttt that is sick AF! So now, I know why people do that when they see me in my whips, it’s funny as hell. That would have to be the best thing about being in the car scene as women, seeing their reactions when they know it’s a girl driving the car”.
Élyse would like to share this message to any girl that is struggling like her and can never seem to have it easy like other people: “never give up on your dreams. I remember, I saw this quote one day and it made me really push myself to my limits to achieve my goals. It goes: never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it, the time will pass anyway”.
